Get There in One Piste-Swinton Offers Advice to Self-Drive Ski Motorists

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 01/16/12 — Motorists who are driving to the continent for their skiing holiday are being advised to have adequate before venturing onto the continent.

Each year over 150,000, Brits go on a self-drive ski holiday. However, an online survey by Swinton revealed that almost one in ten (9%), wrongly believe that their UK comprehensive car insurance cover translates to the same level of cover when on mainland Europe.

Swinton is reminding motorists that some policies that offer fully comp in the UK may only offer third party cover, the minimum lever of cover, when on the continent.

Swinton is advising all motorists undertaking a self-drive ski holiday to check with their car insurance provider what exactly they will be covered for when driving abroad. In the event of an accident motorists could be left with a hefty car insurance bill if they mistakenly believed their fully comp cover in the UK offered the same level of cover in Europe.

Steve Chelton, Claims Manager at Swinton said, “Many Brits opt to drive to a skiing resort as an affordable alternative to take the family on holiday. Our advice to all motorists undertaking this type of holiday is to double check with their provider to see what exactly they are covered for.”
