MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 03/04/12 — More and more van drivers are using hi-tech equipment whilst on the move, according to a new study. The research by Swinton Commercial, a leading broker of , shows that an increasing number of van drivers now rely on gadgets like smart phones and tablets to see them through the day and aid them in their work.
Whilst A-Zs were once essential for navigating to and from jobs, sat-navs are now commonplace and are able to provide up-to-the-minute travel updates, which allow users to avoid delays and ensure they get to locations on time. On top of this, the introduction of tablet PCs has seen many drivers ditch their diaries in favour of the devices that can be used for scheduling, as well as reminders and lists for jobs that may require them.
The biggest success story, however, has been the smart phone. Being smaller than a tablet has meant that many more people can use them out and about on a job and many believe that they are just as useful. The phones let people send and receive essential emails when out of the house, listen to music on the go, navigate using built-in maps, keep up-to-date with goings-on via social media and countless other things after having downloaded apps.
Phil Moss, Commercial Vehicle Manager at Swinton said: “It-s great that van drivers are so tech savvy. However, it is essential that van drivers do not let their gadgets distract them when behind the wheel. Van drivers need to keep their eyes on the road at all times to avoid any accidents and resultant claims.”
