MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 05/15/12 — Swinton Bikes, the UK-s leading broker of has welcomed new plans to up premiums for car drivers that are caught using mobile phones.
The plans come alongside the results of a Swinton Bikes survey which found there had been an increase in the number of motorcyclists being affected by drivers texting behind the wheel – an action that can impact on both the car drivers insurance and also the of the rider.
The survey, which polled 1000 motorbike owners, found that mobile phone usage has become the most annoying and dangerous thing drivers do whilst out on the road. Drivers not using their indicators and ineffective use of mirrors also appeared on the list.
As well as this, 5% of motorcyclists also admitted that the behaviour of other drivers was of a big concern during bad weather.

A lack of observations by car drivers can result in them failing to see bikers and causing serious accidents. Actions such as increasing premiums for people caught on mobile phones should help to deter drivers taking this risk and ultimately breaking the law.”
