Flailing Footballs Cause Insurance Mishaps

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 06/26/12 — As the European Football Championship comes to a close for England, football fever continues to spread across Britain as the tournament enters the semi-final stages – Swinton is warning homeowners to double check their home insurance policy to make sure they are covered for accidental damage.

In a Swinton survey of 1,000 online customers, nearly one in five (19%) said their children have caused accidental damage to their homes from playing football.

The retailer is expecting these types of claims to increase during the European Championship as children up and down the country are inspired by their footballing idols on the playing fields in Ukraine and Poland.

The most common complaint from flailing footballs was smashed windows followed by knocked ornaments. Expensive pictures being knocked of walls and broken furniture were also on the list of items most likely to be damaged.

Swinton is reminding homeowners to double check their home insurance policies as not all providers will cover accidental damage as standard. However, the policy automatically does include accidental damage to windows as standard.

Steve Chelton, Claims Manager at Swinton said, “Homeowners should always check with their home insurance provider to see what they are covered for as accidental damage cover doesn-t always come as standard on a home insurance policy.”
