Russell Indexes: US Outperformed Europe & Asia in First Half 2012; All Global Regions Positive

SEATTLE, WA — (Marketwire) — 07/02/12 —

The Russell 1000® Index of U.S. large cap stocks outperformed other major global regions in the first half of 2012 as illustrated by the Russell Global family of indexes.

The Russell 1000 returned +9.3% in the first half, relative to a +6.1% return for the Russell Global Index, a +3.4% return for the Russell Developed Europe Index and a +4.6% return for the Russell Asia-Pacific Index.

Within the Russell 1000, the Financial Services sector led the first half, with a +13.6% return, followed by the Consumer Discretionary (+12.9%) and Health Care (+12.8%) sectors. The Energy sector was at the bottom and also the only negative performing sector within the Russell 1000 in the first half at (-3.2%).

The Russell Global Index includes more than 10,000 securities in 48 countries and covers 98% of the investable global market. All securities in the index are classified according to size, region, country and sector. Daily Returns for the main components are available here:
