MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 12/25/11 — Swinton, the UK-s leading broker of , is warning drivers about the dangers of potholes on the UK-s roads this winter.
Potholes can often be disguised as puddles or can even go unnoticed by drivers. There are an estimated 10 potholes in every mile of UK road(i). And although many potholes on our roads can look minor, severe damage to vehicles can be done as a result of driving over them.
Swinton want to make drivers aware of the damage that could be caused due to uneven road surfaces and want to remind motorists to take extra care on the roads over the winter months.
Potholes cost motorists an estimated GBP 320 million every single year, causing damage to car wheels, rims, suspension and wheel tracking, according to potholes.co.uk. It is not always safe for motorists to avoid or to swerve around potholes and it is therefore important that drivers reduce their speed dramatically if this is the case.
Steve Chelton, Claims Manager at Swinton stated that, “At this time of year the numbers of potholes increase, due to water penetrating through the road surfaces, freezing and cracking, causing the road surface to fail. It is paramount that motorists really take care when driving their vehicles at this time of year so that minimal damage is caused as a result of potholes. Therefore, over the festive period, it is important for motorists to keep an eye out for potholes in our roads, and try to avoid them as best they can, but only if it is safe to do so.”
