Consumer Airport Experiences Revealed

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 11/08/11 — Research into the airport experiences of travellers in the UK after the Iceland volcano eruption has been released by Asda Financial Services. The data was collected in June 2011 as a result of an independent survey carried out by eDigital Research, and reveals how environmental incidents such as the Iceland volcano affect consumer purchasing behaviour.

74.94% revealed that they were more likely to purchase travel insurance as a direct result of the Icelandic volcano eruption in 2010 and the dire impact it had on thousands of vacations.

The survey also asked consumers about their worst ever airport experiences. Those participating in the survey were given the chance to give accounts of poor service, delays and baggage problems. Whilst several of those surveyed claimed to have never had a bad experience whilst travelling, other anonymous accounts were given as follows:

“Missing luggage – it happened in 2006 when there was a problem with the luggage handlers at Heathrow, 5 of us went to Canada and by the time we got there 2 people-s bags didn-t arrive.”

“Coming back from Ibiza a few years ago we were delayed in Ibiza Airport for 5.5 hours with two young children under 5 and all the airport shops etc were closing.”

“Delayed flight back from Corfu – waited over 7 hours with no information as to what was going on. Also, back in the days when people were given a choice of smoking or non smoking areas on the plane, we were mistakenly allocated seats in the smoking area. We had a one year old baby, and not one person would swap seats!! Flight attendants were less than helpful.”

“The length of time it took to get through passport control, both there and back, in a very hot airport in Marrakech… awful and we thought we were going to miss our flight on the way back!”
