Health Care Sectors of the Russell 1000(R) Index and Russell 2000(R) Index Displayed Variability of Returns Since Beginning of September 2012

SEATTLE, WA — (Marketwire) — 11/30/12 — Health Care sector returns of the U.S. large cap Russell 1000® Index and U.S. small cap Russell 2000® Index have displayed a variability of returns since the beginning of September, as the Health Care sector of the Russell 1000® Index changed 5.0% from September (+4.2%) to October (-0.8%) and the Health Care sector of the Russell 2000® Index showed a change of 13.4% during the same time period (+4.6% gains in September to a (-8.8%) loss in October).

Thus far this month, the returns of the Health Care sector of the Russell 1000® Index have changed 0.2% from October (-0.8%) to November (-0.6%) and the Health Care sector returns of the Russell 2000® Index have changed 8.0% from October (-8.8%) to November (-0.8%) as of November 27.

“The Russell 1000® and Russell 2000® Index data have shown the heightened sensitivity of the health care sector to politics,” said Stephen Wood, Chief Market Strategist for Russell Investments. “Recently the indexes have suggested that, with President Obama-s reelection, the fate of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) may no longer be in doubt: as a result, the winners and losers in the Health Care sector may be easier to identify.”
