LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 05/17/12 — As the Royals and the nation get set to celebrate the Queen-s Jubilee year in 2012, the latest research for Asda Finance reveals that when it comes to naming our cats and dogs, as a nation we are keen to show our patriotic side.
Research based on Asda customers(i) shows that the most popular patriotic pet name for a cat is Princess, followed by Duke, Prince and Duchess.
Cats are not alone in the world of regal titles, as the most popular patriotic dog name is Duke. Prince takes the second spot in popular royal names for dog-s league and other names include Charles, Philip and Queenie.
Brits are renowned for their love animals and the Royal family; therefore it might come as no surprise that the two should collide. There-s a wide range of royal names that patriotic pet lovers have given their pup or cat. The research shows that King, Jubilee, Prince Harry and Elizabeth are all within the top ten royal names for household cats and dogs.
Despite this, the most popular name in the UK for both dogs and cats is Charlie, illustrating a possible soft spot for the Royals underneath it all. Alfie is another popular name for cats and dogs across the country.
This Jubilee year could see an increase in the number of Royal pet names given to domestic creatures. New additions to the Royal family could see names such as Kate and Pippa creep into the top ten.
