Pumped Up Petrol Prices Hit Easter Bank Holiday Motorists

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 04/01/12 — Swinton, the UK-s leading high street retailer of , is offering motorists some fuel efficient driving tips after another rise in fuel duty at this year-s budget.

Petrol prices are now averaged at 140.9 pence per litre compared with 132.9 pence per litre this time last year. This means that for a family driving a Ford Mondeo (50.4 mpg) who average 10,000 miles a year, paid GBP 1196 for fuel during 2011. With fuel increases at the back end of last year and more since the start of 2012, the same family is expected to now fork out GBP 1260 for fuel this year.

Swinton is estimating that over 10 million motorists will be on the roads over Easter taking advantage of the long bank holiday weekend. For motorists travelling the breadth and depth of the country, the increase in petrol prices could mean for many families that holiday spending budgets are significantly reduced compared to previous years.

With fuel prices showing no sign of falling, Swinton is helping motorists by offering some tips to drive more fuel efficiently:

Steve Chelton, Claims Manager at Swinton said, “Petrol prices have been rising steadily for the past few years and it is hitting motorists hard. Many families will be getting ready to go away for the Easter break and I am sure that their fuel bill will take up a big chunk of their holiday budget. In fact I imagine some families will be reducing the number of weekend breaks they take because of the petrol prices rise.”
