When big salmon are moving quickly through the fresh river water the heart of the angler moves faster. The Norwegian river Gaula is the most productive river, for all who want to catch the king of fish. The Norwegian Flyfishers- Club (NFC) has a comprehensive offer for all who want to combine the fun and adventure around the fish with a stay in Norway.
The NFC offers beginners as well as advanced anglers optimal conditions: The fishing area near the small town Stören is known by fans as the “Salmon Capital”. In this area the NFC manages solid stretches of river and makes them available for fly fishers from all around the world. “In each river section, which can be more than one kilometre long, never more than two anglers fish at the same time. “Successful salmon catches are the order of the day” said Manfred Raguse, chairman of the Norwegian Flyfishers Club.
The NFC also offers a comprehensive guide service to beginners who decide to fish the Gaula River in Norway for the first time. Fishers who are fishing the first time for salmon, as well as experienced salmon anglers are supervised by guides and receive all necessary assistance and instructions. To secure the declining salmon population, the NFC is ecological dedicated: Together with other fishery conservation bodies, the club makes vast efforts for a reduction of net fishing in the whole of Norway and in the Trondheim Fjord in particular, this lowered the number of salmon killed in the last few years considerably. In addition, anglers begin to practice “catch & release” to protect the salmon in the river. The NFC is considered being the spearhead for catch & release in Norway, with as much as 62,6% of the total salmon catch on the NFC beats being carefully returned (2010) to the river to allow successful participation in the next spawning season.
