MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 12/05/11 — Swinton is warning van drivers not to be driven to distraction by Christmas decorations inside their van.
During the festive season, many drivers working long hours may be tempted to decorate the inside of their van in order to bring a little seasonal charm to their home away from home.
However, Swinton Commercial, the UK-s leading high street retailer of , is warning drivers not to place too much importance on making their vehicle look the part, instead focusing on the dangers involved.
Those who find themselves a long way from home at this time of year often opt for decorations such as tinsel or small ornaments which are placed on the dashboard. However, these have been known to slide around while the vehicle is moving, causing an unnecessary distraction for the driver.
Swinton Commercial is advising against interior Christmas lights, which come equipped with a special attachment, allowing them to be hooked up to the vehicles cigarette lighter. Interior lights can cause the driver to be dazzled, and could be dangerous during long journeys, while elaborate decorations may also distract other drivers on the road. Similarly, decorations hung from the vans interior rear view mirror should not obstruct the drivers view.
Phil Moss, Commercial Vehicle Manager at Swinton Commercial, said: “While we appreciate that many van drivers will want to bring a little festive spirit to their work environment, we cannot stress enough the importance of driving safely. Too many distractions can be dangerous, so it-s vital that this is kept in mind whatever the season- and of course the right can go a long way to ensuring a Merry Christmas should the worst happen.”
