MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 02/26/12 — Swinton, the leading high street retailer of is warning motorists who are driving onto the continent this summer to be aware of the changes to France-s motoring laws.
From 1st July, all motorists will need to carry a breathalyser kit in their vehicle if they are driving in or through France and from November there will be a fine if this is not complied with. A single use breathalyser kit will satisfy the requirement however, Swinton is warning motorists to carry two, in case they use one they will still have another unused in the event of a police checkpoint.
The kits will cost between GBP 1 and GBP 2 and will be available to purchase at ferry ports and tunnel terminals for crossings over to France. The new measure aims to reduce the amount of alcohol related road traffic accidents in France, which has a lower legal limit than in the UK.
Motorists driving in France are also required by law to carry a warning triangle and a high visibility vest in case they break down in an emergency.
Steve Chelton, Claims Manager at Swinton said, “While there will be a grace period over the summer months it is vital that motorists are aware of the changes if they are venturing onto the continent this summer. The kits will be readily available at the ports and terminals so there is no excuse for not carrying one.”
