MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 03/19/12 — Swinton Bikes is backing the latest Think! campaign designed to reduce road fatality numbers.
The retailer hopes the campaign will reduce the number of motorcycle deaths on UK roads. Statistics from the Department of Transport suggest that motorcyclists make up nearly 20% of fatal road traffic accidents despite only accounting for 1% of road traffic and are 50 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a road traffic accident than car drivers.
The campaign is currently airing on commercial radio stations around the UK. The advert describes a biker, their hobbies, whether they have a partner or children and ends with their name. The idea is that if a motorist personally knows a motorcyclist then they will be more likely to spot them on the roads.
The radio adverts are supported by a TV advert, which shows a biker with a large flashing neon sign of his name attached to his bike as well as large billboard posters, to further highlight the issue that motorists need to be extra vigilant towards motorcyclists, or they could risk being involved in a fatal accident that could have devastating consequences for all those involved.
Antony Aronin, Head of Swinton said, “Motorcyclists are grossly over represented in fatal road traffic accidents so we are lending our support to this campaign. It is the responsibility of all motorists to look out for other each other on the road and motorcyclists should do everything they can to make themselves as visible as possible to other road users.”
